If you need to store lots of photos, music or videos and movies an external hard drive is your best choice. If there are music or video files that you are not worried about backing up because you have the original CD or DVD you can use an external drive to store these files without putting them on the hard drive in your laptop. This can save you money by buying a smaller hard drive for your laptop.
My personal favorite accessory is a laptop tv tuner. For under $100, a TV tuner for your laptop lets you watch over the air signals, cable and satellite programs and record TV on your computer. If you have a high definition monitor many tuners are compatible with high definition signals. To watch over the air signals you need an antenna. Some tuners have a built in antenna while others come with an external desktop antenna about the size of beer or soda bottle. More powerful antennas are available. Your reception will depend on the city you live in and how far you are from the broadcast antenna but if you live in a major city chances are you can watch over the air TV in your back yard or at a tailgate party. To watch cable and satellite signals you need a subscription to the service and the tuner must be connected to the cable or satellite cable.
